DGCA orders Air India to intensify Boeing 787 safety checks after Ahmedabad crash kills 241

Following the devastating crash of Air India flight AI-171 in Ahmedabad, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has directed the airline to ramp up safety inspections on its Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft. The regulatory move comes amid national mourning after the crash claimed 241 lives.

The Dreamliner, en route to London, went down shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, crashing into a residential area near a medical college. Only one passenger survived the crash, out of 242 people onboard, including 12 crew members.

In response, the DGCA has asked Air India to carry out immediate checks on the fuel monitoring systems and other critical safety mechanisms onboard all Dreamliner aircraft. The regulator aims to ensure that no technical oversight leads to another such catastrophe.

Aviation experts believe these inspections could affect flight schedules, but emphasize the importance of prioritizing safety. The focus now remains on the ongoing investigation and immediate preventive measures across the national fleet.
